The Castle Special Place Citizens' Initiative

The Castle Special Place Citizens' Initiative is a broadly based, citizen-led process that commencing in November 2007, undertook development of a conceptual proposal for protecting the Castle Special Place within the province’s current protected areas and parks designations. The Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation, who is responsible for designating all such areas, has indicated they are looking forward to such citizen-lead conceptual proposals.

Throughout the process, an open invitation existed for any stakeholder or interest group not currently involved to join and participate at the level of their choice. Information on the levels of participation and the functioning of the Working Group can be found in pages 5 through 8 of the conceptual proposal. If interested in the process, please contact the facilitator, Carole Stark, Chinook Institute for Community Stewardship at carole.stark@chinookinstitute.org or mail to Chinook Institute, Box 8618, Canmore, AB T1W 2V3.
